CHAPTER 547
(Senate Bill 442)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 49 of
Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1962 Supple-
ment), title "Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 5. County
Board of Education", increasing the annual compensation of mem-
bers of the Charles County Board of Education to six hundred
dollars.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 49 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1962 Supplement), title "Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 5.
County Board of Education", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

49. The county board of education shall hold an annual meeting
each year on the second Tuesday in May, or as near as possible
thereto in May, except that in Montgomery County such annual meet-
ing shall be held on or before the tenth day of January in each year.
At this meeting the board shall elect one of its members to serve as
president and one to serve as vice-president. Other regular meetings
shall be held at least once in each school term, and such special meet-
ings may be held as the duties and business of the board may require.
The members of the county boards of education shall receive no sal-
ary, but each member shall receive the sum of one hundred dollars
annually for traveling and other expenses incident to attending the
meetings and transacting the business of the board within the
county, provided, however, that in Dorchester, Howard and Somerset
counties each member of the board of education shall receive an-
nually the sum of two hundred dollars for such traveling and other
expenses. In Charles County, each member of the County Board of
Education shall receive compensation at the rate of [two hundred
fifty] six hundred dollars annually, and in Allegany County each
member of the Board of Education shall receive not more than two
hundred dollars annually for such traveling and other expenses. In
St. Mary's County each member of the Board of Education shall re-
ceive the sum of $200.00 annually for such traveling and other ex-
penses. In Frederick County each member of the Board of Education
shall receive the sum of $300.00 annually for such traveling and other
expenses. In Worcester and Queen Anne's counties each member of
the Board of Education shall receive the sum of $250.00 annually for
such traveling and other expenses. In Wicomico and Garrett counties
each member of the Board of Education shall receive the sum of
$200.00 annually for such traveling and other expenses.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.
