exemption in Frederick County shall increase ten per centum (10%)
until an exemption of one-hundred per centum (100%) is reached,
and such a tax exemption as is provided in this subsection shall be
mandatory in Washington County in the amount of at least twenty-
five per centum (25%) of the total assessed valuation.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 645K,
645M and 645S of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
(1962 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle
"Employment of Prisoners in Harford and Anne Arundel Coun-
ties," extending to Kent County CECIL, KENT AND QUEEN
ANNE'S COUNTIES CERTAIN COUNTIES AND BALTIMORE
CITY the provisions of the law relating to employment of prisoners,
changing the name of the subtitle, and relating generally to em-
ployment of certain prisoners in Kent County. CECIL, KENT AND
QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTIES. CERTAIN COUNTIES AND
BALTIMORE CITY.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 645K, 645M and 645S of Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, (1962 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punish-
ments," subtitle "Employment of Prisoners in Harford and Anne
Arundel Counties," be, and it is hereby repealed, and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
EMPLOYMENT OF PRISONERS [IN HARFORD AND ANNE
ARUNDEL COUNTIES]

Whenever a person shall be convicted of crime and sentenced to
imprisonment in any county, town or city jail by the circuit court
for [Harford or Anne Arundel county] the counties to which this
subtitle applies, the judge imposing sentence may prescribe that
insofar as possible the person may continue his regular employment
or obtain new employment while serving the term of his sentence.
If convicted person has been regularly employed the sheriff shall
arrange for a continuation of said work insofar as possible without
interruption. The sheriff shall make every effort to secure some
suitable employment for the prisoner if he is not employed in any
job. The sheriff shall try to obtain employment for the prisoner
paying a fair and reasonable wage, and the prisoner shall work at
fair and reasonable employment and hours per day and per week.
