(q) (2) The State's Attorney may appoint one deputy State's at-
torney and five assistant State's attorneys. The salary of the deputy
State's attorney ['s salary is six thousand dollars ($6,000)] shall be
at such compensation, not exceeding seventy-eight hundred dollars
($7,800)
per annum, as the State's Attorney may deem proper, to be
paid by the county on the certification of the State's Attorney to the
County Commissioners
[.]; [T] the salary of two of the assistant
State's attorneys shall be at such compensation, not exceeding [forty-
eight] sixty-six hundred dollars [($4,800)] ($6,600) per annum
each, as the State's Attorney may deem proper, to be paid by the
county on the certification of the State's Attorney to the County Com-
missioners; and the salary of three of the assistant State's attorneys
shall be at such compensation, not exceeding [Thirty-six] fifty-four
hundred dollars [($3,600)] ($5,400) per annum each, as the State's
Attorney may deem proper, to be paid by the county on the certifica-
tion of the State's Attorney to the County Commissioners.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

CHAPTER 462
(House Bill 677)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 59 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Howard County (1957 Edition,
being Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Howard County," subtitle "County Commissioners and Coun-
ty Collectors," relating to the County Attorney for Howard County,
eliminating requirement to pay quarterly and deleting provision
that such attorney shall act for Board of Supervisors of Election
of Howard County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 59 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Howard County
(1957 Edition, being Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Howard County," subtitle "County Commissioners
and County Collectors," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

59.

The County Commissioners of Howard County are hereby author-
ized and directed to employ at such annual salary as they may set,
[payable quarterly,] one attorney-at-law, to act for and represent as
legal adviser, the Board of County Commissioners of Howard County,
the County Treasurer and Collector of Howard County, the County
Surveyor and Engineer of Howard County, [the Board of Supervisors
of Election of Howard County] and the Board of License Commis-
sioners of Howard County, in all matters of legal nature requiring
the services of an attorney-at-law. The said attorney shall advise
said Boards or individuals by his opinion in all legal matters referred
