in order to clarify the language thereof, and to remove therefrom
certain obsolete, incorrect, or duplicating provisions.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 33A, 34, and 35 of Article 20 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Somerset County,"
subtitle "County Commissioners," Section 33A thereof having been
enacted by Chapter 763 of the Acts of 1957 be and they are hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments; and that Sections 36, 40,
41, 42, and 44-48, inclusive, of said Article and subtitle, be and they
are hereby repealed, and all to read as follows:

33A.

(a)   The County Commissioners [are hereby authorized to] may
close their offices on each Saturday [on and after January 1, 1959].

(b)  The office of the Treasurer of Somerset County shall be open
during the hours of 9 o'clock A.M. to 5 o'clock P.M. during the week,
and shall be closed on Saturdays [on and after January 1, 1959].

34.   [At and thence forward from the October term of the Circuit
Court for Somerset County eighteen hundred and ninety-two the]
The board of county commissioners shall provide for the immediate
payment of jurors and State's witnesses in attendance upon said
court. The payment [to] shall be made by the treasurer of said board
upon presentation and endorsement of the certificate of such attend-
ance issued by the clerk of the Circuit Court for Somerset County to
each of such jurors and witnesses presenting the same. [And in]
In order to procure the money necessary to put the county treasury
on such cash basis the board of county commissioners [are hereby
authorized and empowered to] may borrow a sum of money not
exceeding six thousand dollars in amount and [to] pay interest on
the same not exceeding five per centum per annum and [to] issue
county bonds therefor for sums of not less than one hundred dollars
payable in three, five and ten years as in the judgment of said board
may be deemed most advisable; and said bonds shall not be subject
to tax for State and county purposes. [And the said] The board of
county commissioners are hereby required to estimate for and levy
in advance each year [beginning in the levy for eighteen hundred
and ninety-two] a sum sufficient to pay the jurors and State's wit-
nesses who may be summoned to attend said court at its several
sittings [during the year eighteen hundred and ninety-three, and
afterwards], and in addition thereto they shall each year levy such
part of the sum so borrowed as may be necessary to create a sinking
fund for the extinguishment of the debt hereby created at its maturity
and to pay annually the interest on the same.

35.   [It shall be lawful for him to] The clerk may administer the
oaths, and take the probates of all public accounts presented to said
commissioners for allowance, in the same manner, and to the same
effect and extent as probates are now made before justices of the
peace.

[36. He shall be entitled to twenty-five cents each for making out
and delivering to the sheriff of said county, certificates of the appoint-
ment of trustees of the poor.]
