Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 7-36, 7-37, 7-39 and 7-40 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Baltimore County (1958 Edition), title "Title 7," subtitle
"Article II. People's Court.", be and they are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

Sec. 7-36. Creation; composition.

There is hereby created a people's court of the county. Such court
shall consist of a chief judge [and] , three associates judges and a
substitute judge;
the number of such judges may be increased or de-
creased by the General Assembly by law.

Sec. 7-37. Judges—Appointment and term.

The Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate,
shall appoint to the people's court a chief judge and two associate
judges to take office on the first Monday of June, 1955, for a term
expiring on the first Monday of May, 1959. The additional associate
judge herein provided shall be appointed by the Governor, by and
with the advice of the Senate, to take office June 1, 1957, for a term
expiring on the first Monday of May, 1961. The substitute judge
herein provided shall be appointed by the Governor, by and with the
advice of the Senate, to take office June 1, 1963, for a term expiring
on the first Monday of May, 1967.
Thereafter such judges shall be
appointed for terms of four years expiring on the first Monday in
May.

Sec. 7-39. Same—Salaries.

The salary of the chief judge of the people's court shall be seventy-
five hundred dollars per annum; the salary of each of the associate
judges shall be seven thousand dollars per annum [;] and the salary
of the substitute judge shall be three thousand dollars per annum in
addition to the sum of forty dollars per day when actually sitting as
a substitute judge as herein after provided. All compensation as
provided herein shall
[to] be paid by the county council, who is here-
by authorized and directed to levy to pay such salaries of such addi-
tional salaries as they may determine.

Sec. 7-40. Same—Assignments; minimum number of sessions.

The chief judge shall make the assignments of the judges of the
people's court, provided, that sessions shall be held in each district
on at least two days each week. In the event of the temporary absence
or inability of any judge, the substitute judge shall serve in his place
and stead during the period of his absence or inability and shall have
the same power and authority and be subject to the same duties and
responsibilities as the said judges.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.
