and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and to
read as follows:

299.

The Judges of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City are author-
ized and directed to appoint from time to time as many court stenog-
raphers, not exceeding in number altogether the number of said
judges, as shall in their discretion be required for the services of the
several courts of Baltimore City, AND AS MAY BE PROVIDED
FOR FROM TIME TO TIME IN THE ANNUAL ORDINANCE OF
ESTIMATES, who shall be sworn officers of the court, and shall
each be paid a salary of [Seven] Nine Thousand Dollars [($7,000)]
($0,000.00) per annum when such stenographers shall be required to
attend the courts regularly, or twenty THIRTY dollars per diem for
each day of actual employment when he shall be appointed to attend
only when his services shall be specially required by the judges; the
said salaries to be in like manner as the salaries of the other officers
of the courts are now paid, as prescribed in Section 293. Every offi-
cial court stenographer of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City,
including the stenographer assigned to the Grand Jury, who after
having served twenty-five preceding consecutive years, shall attain
the age of sixty five SIXTY years while in office, or have become
physically or mentally incapacitated from performing the duties of
court stenographer from ailments or accidents not resulting from
any of his misconduct, shall be entitled to retirement with a salary
of [$1,000] $3,000.00 $2,000.00 per annum, payable as other official
stenographers' salaries are now paid, provided that such retirement
shall be evidenced by a satisfactory certificate approved by the Su-
preme Bench of Baltimore City, directed to the Comptroller of the
City of Baltimore, advising him of the retirement of the stenogra-
pher, and that said retirement is in accord with the provisions of
this section.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
January 1, 1964.

CHAPTER 253
(Senate Bill 334)

AN ACT to add new Section 118 (m) to Article 2B of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Alcoholic Bever-
ages", sub-title "Restrictions Upon Licenses", to follow immedi-
ately after Section 118 (1) thereof, to prohibit the purchase, con-
sumption or possession of alcoholic beverages by minors in Calvert
County, with exceptions, providing penalties for violations, and
relating to the jurisdiction of trial magistrates to hear and try
such cases in Calvert County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 118 (m) be and it is hereby added to Article 2B of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Alcoholic
