J. MILLARD TAWES, Governor                      237

(1930 Edition), title "St. Mary's County," subtitle "Peddlers,"
which Section was added thereto by Chapter 677 of the Acts of
1961, including within the definition of peddler or salesman for
whom a license is required in St. Mary's County, one who solicits
subscriptions for periodical publications.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 164 (a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "St. Mary's County," subtitle "Peddlers," which
Section was added thereto by Chapter 677 of the Acts of 1961, be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

164.

(a) It is unlawful for any person to conduct the business of or to
act as an itinerant or door-to-door peddler or salesman of goods,
wares or merchandise, either by sample or otherwise, in St. Mary's
County unless he has secured and holds a current license as such,
issued upon application by the Sheriff of the county. As vised herein,
"peddler or salesman" includes one who offers for sale or solicits
subscriptions for magazines or other periodical publications.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

CHAPTER 123
(House Bill 298)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 238,
239, and 240, of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1962 Cumulative Supplement), title "Revenue and Taxes," subtitle
"State Department of Assessments and Taxation," relating to the
salaries of assessors, assessors' aides, assistant supervisor of as-
sessments, and supervisor of assessments, in Baltimore County,
Maryland, and to enact a new section, to be known as Section 238A,
authorizing the designation of field supervisor in Baltimore County,
Maryland, and to provide for the salary payable to such field super-
visor.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 238, 239, and 240, of Article 81 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1962 Cumulative Supplement), title "Revenue and
Taxes," subtitle "State Department of Assessments and Taxation,"
be and they hereby are repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

238. Salaries in Baltimore County—Assessors and assessors'
aides.

(a) Baltimore County, Maryland, shall be authorized and directed
to levy and pay each assessor of Baltimore County a salary [ranging
