CHAPTER 115
(House Bill 162)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 192 of
Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Licenses," subtitle "Dog Licenses in the Counties," amend-
ing the laws concerning the issue of dog licenses in certain coun-
ties in order to change the reference to the term "seeing-eye dog."
Whereas, in the state laws concerning the licensing of dogs in
some of the counties of Maryland, there is a provision that "seeing-
eye dogs" are exempt from dog license fees; and
Whereas, the term "seeing-eye dog" while in general usage is
also a trade name and for that reason it has been suggested by the
firm which uses this name that in fairness to other similar agencies
the designation should be "dog guide;" now, therefore,
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 192 of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Licenses," subtitle "Dog Licenses in the
Counties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
192.
If the application shall disclose and the clerk be satisfied that the
dog for which the license is sought is a [so-called "seeing-eye dog,"]
"dog guide," trained to aid the blind and actually in use for such
purpose, the license therefor shall be issued without the payment of
any fee and the clerk shall inscribe across the face of the license
in red ink the words ["seeing-eye dog."] "dog guide."
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (k)
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," amending
the law with respect to the office of the Sheriff of Garrett County,
particularly concerning the Deputy Sheriff, other employees, and
the allowance for boarding prisoners.
