(House Joint Resolution 60)

House Joint Resolution requesting the use of surplus grains for the
feeding of geese in the late winter and early spring season.

Considerable damage is done to wheat fields in the State of Mary-
land during the late winter and early spring season by geese feeding
on the young sprouts of wheat.

As the ground thaws after the winter freeze, the geese pull out
the seed from under the plant or cut the main stem and in either
case kill the plant.

At this time the geese are building strength for their annual mi-
gration northerly. If alternate means of feeding them could be found
for a period of a few weeks during the late winter and early spring
in Maryland, thousands of dollars of damage would be averted to
fields planted in winter wheat.

One possibility would be for the use of surplus grains which could
be made available by the federal government. These grains could
then be distributed by the farm bureau or by private conservation
groups and made available to the geese for feeding; now, therefore,
be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the use of
surplus grains in the hands of federal agencies is requested for the
feeding of geese during the weeks of late winter and early spring;
and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of State be directed to send copies of
this resolution under the Great Seal of the State of Maryland to the
Department of Agriculture and to each member of the Maryland
delegation in the Congress of the United States.

(House Joint Resolution 66)

House Joint Resolution requesting Legislative Council to undertake
a study of trading by auction.

Whereas, The statutes and regulations with respect to the sale of
goods, chattels, wares, or merchandise by auction are not sufficiently
comprehensive to provide adequate regulation of trading by auction;
