such pensions to widows of former Judges of said People's Court of
Baltimore City.

437.

[(1)] (a). The People's Court of Baltimore City shall have ex-
clusive original jurisdiction at law in all civil cases arising in Balti-
more City over which Justices of the Peace had jurisdiction prior to
May 5, 1941, including all cases in said City for the enforcement of
contracts and to obtain redress for wrongs, where the debt or dam-
ages claimed shall not exceed [$100] $500; in all suits on bonds with
penalty exceeding [$100] $500 where the sum due and claimed does
not exceed [$100] $500; in actions of replevin where the value of the
thing in controversy does not exceed [$100] $500; and in all cases of
attachment in any of the cases mentioned in [Section 36] Article 9
where the sum claimed shall not exceed [$100] $500; and in all cases
arising under Sections 455 to 462, inclusive, of this Article.

[(2)] (b). In all cases instituted on and after June 1, [1957]
1963, the People's Court of Baltimore City shall have in addition to
the jurisdiction granted by Section 437 [(1)] (a) of this subtitle,
concurrent jurisdiction with the Superior Court of Baltimore City,
the Baltimore City Court and the Court of Common Pleas of said
City, in any of the cases enumerated in Section 437 [(1)] (a) of this
subtitle, except those arising under Sections 455 to 462, inclusive, of
this Article where the amount or thing in controversy shall be [One
Thousand Dollars—($1,000)] Thirty-six TWENTY-FIVE Hundred
Dollars ($3,600)
($2,500) or less and shall exceed [One Hundred
Dollars ($100.00)] Five Hundred Dollars ($500). In any cause of
action enumerated in this [Section] Subsection (b) any defendant
desiring trial by jury shall have the right to have the cause trans-
ferred to any one of the aforesaid law courts, but in the absence of
designation to the Baltimore City Court, upon such terms for costs
and formal pleading as may be prescribed by rule of the People's
Court and the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

CHAPTER 847
(House Bill 399)

AN ACT to add new Section 32F to Article 26 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1962 Supplement), title "Courts," subtitle
"Circuit Courts for the Counties—Court Stenographers," to follow
immediately after Section 32E thereof, providing an additional
Circuit Court Judge for Harford County, and authorizing its
county commissioners to make certain interim payments therefor.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 32F be and it is hereby added to Article 26 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1962 Supplement), title "Courts,"
subtitle "Circuit Courts for the Counties—Court Stenographers," to
follow immediately after Section 32E thereof, and to read as follows:
