from the date of appointment and until their successors have been
appointed.

10-13.

The county commissioners may remove any member at any time
for cause after a hearing and in such event his successor shall be ap-
pointed for his unexpired term, in the manner hereinbefore set forth.
For the faithful performance of their duties each member shall be
paid annually the sum of one hundred dollars, plus an additional al-
lowance for traveling expenses to be determined by the county com-
missioners. The board of fire commissioners shall have supervisory
jurisdiction over the first department enginemen. They , AND THEY
are empowered to establish rules and regulations to govern the quali-
fications and duties of the fire department enginemen, regulations
governing vacations, and formation of new fire departments, and such
other matters pertaining to the fire service as may be directed by the
Board of Fire Commissioners,
AS THEY DEEM NECESSARY, sub-
ject to the approval of such rules and regulations by the county com-
missioners. This division shall not apply to the City of Annapolis.

10-15.

The county commissioners of Anne Arundel County shall appoint
and dismiss enginemen upon the recommendations of the said Volun-
teer Fire Companies [,]
and subject to examination and recommen-

dation by the Board of Fire Commissioners, Three or more engine

men for each of said companies, and in addition thereto, the necessary
relief enginemen to substitute for the regular enginemen when the

latter are off on vacation or sick as hereinafter provided. Any per-
son recommended by said fire companies for appointment as a reg-
ular engineman after January 1, 1954, shall be required to satisfac-
torily pass an examination conducted by the Board of Fire Com
-
missioners to determine his Physical, Mental and Proficiency Quali-
fications.

ary 1, 1951, shall be allowed to continue in such employment without
the necessity of passing such examinations. The County Commission-

ers are hereby directed to levy a special tax if necessary, in each elec-
tion district sufficient to pay the salaries of the enginemen and relief
enginemen of the several Volunteer Fire Companies and to pay the

NATION AND RECOMMENDATION BY THE BOARD OF FIRE

OF SAID COMPANIES, AND IN ADDITION THERETO, THE
