CHAPTER 734
(House Bill 742)

AN ACT to add a new subsection to Article 73B of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1962 Supplement), title "Pen-
sions," to be known as Section 3 (5) (a) revising the provisions
concerning creditable service and average final compensation of
certain persons who take leave from positions covered by local re-
tirement systems for the purpose of serving in the General Assem-
bly of Maryland.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new subsection 3 (5) (a) of Article 73B, title "Pensions," be
and it is hereby enacted to read as follows:

3 (5) (a) Special provision for members of local retirement sys-
tems on leave of absence without pay for service as members of the
General Assembly.

Notwithstanding any provision of general or local law to the con-
trary, any member of a local retirement system which is operated on
an actuarial basis, as described in Section 31 of this Article, who is on
leave of absence without pay from employment with a political sub-
division of the State of Maryland in order to serve as a member of
the General Assembly shall, upon application, receive service credit
in the local retirement system for the period of such absence re-
quired for service in the General Assembly. In order to receive the
benefit of the service credits provided under this subsection the mem-
ber shall contribute into the local retirement system, at his usual rate
of contribution based upon the salray
SALARY of the position from
which he is on leave without pay to serve as a member of the General
Assembly. It shall be the duty of the Comptroller of the State to make
appropriate certifications as to the service credits to which such
members shall be entitled. The application of this subsection shall be
limited to persons who are members of the General Assembly from
and after January 15, 1963.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

CHAPTER 735
(House Bill 744)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 124 (c)
of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Elections," subtitle "Voting Machines," relating to duties of
custodians of voting machines in Allegany County and requiring
such custodians and members of the Board of Supervisors of Elec-
tions to sign certificates of inspection in that county.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
