144                               LAWS OF MARYLAND                          [CH. 79

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 1 and 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Allegany
County (1955 Edition, being Article 1 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Allegany County", sub-title "Almshouse",
AS SAID SECTION 2 WAS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 440 OF
THE ACTS OF 1957, be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

[Almshouse] County Home

1. (a) The County Commissioners of Allegany County shall have
charge and general supervision of the [almshouse] county home,
formerly the almshouse,
of said county [;] , and shall purchase from
time to time
all supplies, [necessary for the proper clothing, care and
maintenance of the inmates; shall purchase all implements, equip-
ments and articles necessary for farming land thereto attached; shall
erect all buildings and make such repairs thereto and buy such furni-
ture therefor as from time to time may be necessary;] equipment,
furnishings and clothing, and erect and maintain from time to time
all buildings which are necessary or proper for the care, support and
maintenance of the patients residing therein.

(b) Said County Commissioners shall levy from time to time on the
assessable property of the county such sums of money as shall be
necessary for the support [of said almshouse;] and maintenance of
said institution and its patients, and shall appoint from time to time
[at the first meeting in each year a steward and such other officers
and] such employees as may be necessary to properly care for, [and]
conduct [said almshouse and the said steward shall take charge of his
office within ten days after his appointment.] and maintain said
institution and its patients.

[2.] (c) [The] Said county commissioners shall [have general
supervision over the said almshouse and grounds thereto attached,
and over the inmates thereof, AND MAY PRESCRIBE AND DES-
IGNATE WHO SHALL BECOME INMATES THEREOF, and the
manner of conducting the affairs of such almshouse and the officers
and employees thereof shall be subject to their control, and said
County Commissioners shall meet at said almshouse at least once in
each month, shall audit the books thereof and file with the Clerk of
the County Commissioners an itemized report of receipts and expen-
ditures for the preceding month; and all accounts and bills against
the said almshouse shall be verified by oath of the person from whom
purchased and shall be paid by draft of the Clerk to Commissioners
on the Treasurer of the County, and shall be countersigned by the
President of the Board;] prescribe by regulation and shall designate
who is to be admitted to the County Home, and the manner of con-
ducting the affairs thereof;
and said County Commissioners [and
Clerk] shall each receive out of the amount levied for said [aims-
house] County Home the sum of Fifty Dollars per year for the per-
formance of duties required of them by this sub-title, said sum
being payable in quarterly installments of twelve and one-half dol-
lars each.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.
