Any police employee receiving the salary hereinbefore specified for
the rank which he holds when this section becomes effective shall not
have such salary reduced by reason of the establishment of the salary
schedule herein prescribed for said rank, so long as he shall remain
incumbent in that rank.

(d) Each of the said salaries shall for the purposes of this section
be deemed to be the base pay for each rank and grade. Each em-
ployee of the Department, except the Superintendent, shall receive,
in addition to the base pay received by him during each month of
every year an amount equal to a percentage of base pay in accord-
ance with this schedule:

After one year of service, 4%
After two years of service, 8%
After three years of service, 12%
After four years of service, 16%
After five years of service, 20%
After six years of service, 24%
After nine years of service, 28%
After twelve years of service, 32%
After fifteen years of service, 36%
After eighteen years of service, 40%
After twenty-one years of service, 44%

Such amount shall be paid to him simultaneously with his base pay.
Any increase or decrease in base pay, received in any month by
reason of promotion, demotion or otherwise shall be taken into
account in determining the longevity pay receivable by any such
employee and, in figuring the same, the 4% or multiple or multiples
thereof, as the case may be, shall be taken of the increased or de-
creased base pay. In calculating longevity pay for those who are
police employees of the Department on May 4, 1943, the years of
service rendered by each such employee to the Commissioner of
Motor Vehicles and/or to the Department prior to the beginning of
the fiscal year ending in 1944 and to the Department thereafter shall
be taken to account.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

CHAPTER 658
(House Bill 1027)

AN ACT to add new Section 14A to Article 89B of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "State Roads," subtitle
"In General," to follow immediately after Section 14 thereof,
providing that the State Roads Commission may file mosaic plats
in the Circuit Courts of the several counties, and the Supreme
Bench of Baltimore City if appropriate record books are furnished
to such clerks by the State Roads Commission.
