tenants by the entirety, only one such exemption shall be allowed;
provided, further, such exemption shall be allowed only if the com-
bined gross income of said tenants by the entirety does not exceed
[three] four thousand dollars [($3,000.00)] ($4,000.00) for any one
year; provided, further, that such exemption shall be allowed if either
one or both of said tenants are sixty-five (65) years of age or more,
or if either one or both of said tenants shall have resided on such
property for the preceding five years; provided, further, however,
that only one such exemption shall be allowed on any real estate
taxable hereunder.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

CHAPTER 657
(House Bill 1020)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 5 (c)
and (d) of Article 88B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1962
Supplement), title "State Police," subtitle "In General," to in-
crease salaries for members of the Department of Maryland State
Police and to change amounts of longevity pay for certain mem-
bers of the State Police.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 5 (c) and (d) of Article 88B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1962 Supplement), title "State Police," subtitle "In
General," be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

(c) Salaries to be paid to police employees of the Department shall
be as follows:

Superintendent..........................     $14,000

Lieutenant Colonel....................   £$ 8,300]    $8,700

Major ........................................   [$ 7,212]    $7,795

Captain ......................................   [$ 6,556]    $7,086

Lieutenant ................................   [$ 5,960]    $6,442

Examining Physician ..............   [$ 5,418]    $5,856

Sergeant major ........................   [$ 5,418]    $5,856

First sergeant ..........................   [$ 4,925]    $5,324

Detective sergeant....................   [$ 4,925]    $5,324
