CHAPTER 627
(House Bill 660)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 34 (c) of
Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1962 Supple-
ment), title "Workmen's Compensation," subtitle "Application of
Article; Extra-Hazardous Employment" providing for editorial
correction of the Section as it applies to Kent, Howard and
Prince
George's County, providing for payment of insurance premiums
in Prince George's County and eliminating requirement for volun-
teer fire companies in that
County to contribute to the insurance
program.
RELATING TO WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION FOR
VOLUNTEER FIREMEN IN PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY
AND TO PAYMENT FOR THE COST OF PROVIDING SUCH
COMPENSATION.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 34(c) of Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
(1962 Supplement), title "Workmen's Compensation," subtitle "Ap-
plication of Article; Extra-Hazardous Employments," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

34.

(c) The county commissioners of Kent County, AND Howard
County and Prince George's County shall secure compensation to vol-
unteer firemen -fin case of death, or to their dependents], or to or to their
dependents in case of death,
by insuring the payment of such com-
pensation in the State Accident Fund or in any private stock corpora-
tion or mutual association authorized to provide such insurance. THE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY
SHALL SECURE COMPENSATION TO VOLUNTEER FIRE-
MEN, OR TO THEIR DEPENDENTS IN CASE OF DEATH, BY
INSURING THE PAYMENT OF SUCH COMPENSATION IN THE
STATE ACCIDENT FUND OR IN ANY PRIVATE STOCK COM-
PANY OR MUTUAL ASSOCIATION LICENSED TO PROVIDE
SUCH INSURANCE. The County Commissioners of Kent County
and Prince George's County shall annually levy upon the assessable
property of Kent County and Prince George's County a tax sufficient
to pay for such insurance. The County Commissioners of Howard
County shall annually levy upon the assessable property of Howard
County a tax sufficient to pay for such insurance. Provided, however,
that the active members of the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company
shall be limited to seventy-five members, the active members of the
Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company shall be limited to sixty active
members, the active members of the Betterton Volunteer Fire Com-
pany shall be limited to fifty active members, and the active members
of each of the volunteer fire companies of Kent County shall be limited
to forty active members, and that any rescue squad in Kent County
shall be limited to a maximum of 25 members and the active members
of each of the volunteer fire companies in Howard County shall be
limited to seventy-five active members, and only active members shall
be covered by the provisions of this section. [The County Commission-
ers of Prince George's County shall pay 40 percent of the cost of such
insurance to each volunteer fire company or volunteer rescue squad
