      Know all men By These p’sents if wee
Elias King & John Salter each of Kent County
in the Province above said gent am holden
indebted & firmly Bound unto Capten Wm Bowers,
marriner and Comandr of the ship Chester marchant
now Rideing in Chester River, of wch wee are
owners, his heirs Exrs & admrs in the Just & full
sume of Three hundred pounds sterling & Lawfull
money of England to wch payment well & truly
to be made; Wee binde Our selves our heirs Exrs
and admrs firmly by these p’sents as Wittness
our hands & seales this 29th day of Septr Anno
Dom: 1703
    The Condicon of this obligacon is such; that
that if the above bounden Elias King & John
Salter, or either of them, their heirs, Exrs or
admrs or any other pson for, or under them shall
well and truly pay, or cause to be paid the true
and full sume of one hundred and fifty pounds
Lawfull & sterling money of England, when
duely required by Monseuier Pierre Le Maitre
Captain of the St Hubert of Brest in the
Kingdome of france or any pson other wise
duely authorized under him his heirs Exrs or
admrs in the behalfe of him the above said Capt
William Bowyer, his heirs exrs or admrs
which said sume of money the said Bowyer [illegible]
for as Ransome for the ship Chester Merchant
above said upon her Passage from England to this
province she then be taken & in the possesion of
the above said Monsier Pierre, Le Maitre Captain
of the St Hubbert of Brest in the Kingdome of
france above said or otherwise shall redeem
the Release a certaine John Beall Brother in law
to him the said Captaine Wm Bowyer given by
him the said Bowyer as an Hostage for the paymt
of the above said sume of one hundred and fifty
pound sterling Ransome for the said ship Chester
mercht above sd, so yt he ye John Beall shall
wthin convt time (Death only Excepted arive & [illegible]
come into the Kingdome of England of wch he is Native
and doth belong, or other wise to the care & tuition
of him the sd Bowyer, his heirs exrs admrs or
other neer friends of Kinn to him ye sd John Beall
[illegible] as above said [illegible]. Then this obligacon to be voyd
otherwise to remaine and be in full Power force
and vertue ye day & year above said
