And now here to wit at Kent County Court at the Court house in the Town
of Chester in said County on the third tuesday of Novr. being the fourteenth
day of said month in the year of Our Lord seventeen hundred thirty and
eight Cometh the afd Lord propry by Tench Francis his Attorney & prayeth
that the afd Mary to the Indictment afd may Answer And the afd
Mary in her proper person comes & defends the force & injury when
&c And saith that she cannot gainsay the Indictmt. afd so as afd against
her brought nor can she say but that She is guilty of the premisses
afd above upon her Imposed as by the Indictment afd it is alledged
thereupon She Submits to the Court &c Therefore it is Considered
by the Justices here to wit at Kent County Court at the Court house
in the Town of Chester in said County on the third tuesday of Novr.
being the fourteenth day of said month day of said month in the year
of Our Lord seventeen hundred thirty & eight that the afd Mary
have on her bare back at the publick whiping post of the County afd
Eleven lashes well laid on Untill the blood do Appear as a
punishment for Committing the fornication afd Also it is Considered
by the Justices afd at the time & place afd last mentd. that the said
Mary pay the sum of two hundred & ninty nine       pounds of
pounds of tobacco Costs Accrueing on the premisses afd to the
Officers of this Court &c
Ordered by this Court here that the sherr. of Kent County take into his
Custody the body of the afd Mary Anderson & Execute the punishmt. in
the Judgmt. afd Specifyed And afterwards to bring her into Court again
of which said precept the said sher. to wit Simon Wilmer Gent. makes
return thereof on the day & year afd that he hath executed the punishmt.
in the Judgmt. afd Specifyed And have her the Same Mary here
before the Court &c            Rachel Anderson One of the afd
Mary's Children being brought into Court Thereupon the Court
Orders that Security to County be given to keep the afd Rachel from
the maintenance of the County afd       Thereupon Doctr. Alexandr.
Adair being present here in Court Acknowledgeth himself Indebted to
his Lordship the right honourable the Lord Propry in the sum of five
thousand pounds of tobacco to be made & Leveyed on his body goods &
Chattles Lands & Tenements for the Use of his said Lordship his heirs
& Successors With Condition to this recognizance that Doctor Alexr.
Adair do keep the County harmless from the maintenance of the
afd Child Then this recognizance to be Void Else to remain in
