Kent County fst The Jurors for the Right honourable the Lord
propry. that now is for the body of Kent County afd upon their Oath
do present that John Conner late of Saint pauls parish in the Coty.
afd Gentleman the Eight day of May Anno Domini seventeen
hundred thirty and eight at the parish afd in the County afd &
within the Jurisdiction of this Court in and upon William
Trulock in the peace of God and of the said Lord propry then
and there being with force and Arms an Assault did make
and the same William then and there did beat wound & evilly
treat so that of his life it was greatly dispaired and other
harms to him then and there did to the great damage of
the said William and against the peace of the said Lord propry.

On the Back of the afd Indictment was Indorsed as foll. Vizt.
           Billa Vera     Jams Ringgold forem.
And now here to wit at Kent County Court at the Court house
in the Town of Chester in said County on the third tuesday of June
being the twentieth day of said month in the year of Our Lord
seventeen hundred thirty and eight came the afd Lord propry.
by Tench Francis his Attorney & prays that the afd John to the
Indictment afd might Answer
And the afd John in his proper person comes and defends the
force and injury when &ca. And saith that he cannot gainsay
the Indictment afd so as afd against him brought nor can he
say but that he is guilty of the premisses agd above upon
him Imposed as by the Indictment afd it is Alledged And
thereof Submits to the Court With protestation of his
Innocence
Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit
at Kent County Court at the Court house in the Town of Chester
in said County on the third tuesday of June being the day &
year afd last mentioned that the afd John Conner pay the sum
of five shillings Current money of Maryland as a fine for
the Assault & Battery afd As Also the sum of two
hundred fifty & five pounds of tobacco Costs Accr[ueing]
