duties as chairman of said committee; also,

Ordered, That the thanks of this House are hereby ten-
dered to Mr. Thruston, Chairman of the committee on
Expiring Laws, for the prompt and efficient discharge of all
his duties as chairman of said committee.

Which were adopted.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the following bills:

A bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money to
pay the Independent Greys, the Baltimore City Guards, the
Wells and McComas Riflemen, the Law Greys and the Marion
Reserve Guard, military companies in the city of Baltimore,
for services rendered in suppressing a riot on the Baltimore
and Ohio Railroad, in May, 1857, by the orders of the Gov-
ernor.

A bill entitled, an act to compensate Robert S. Reeder for
the trial of certain cases in the Court of Appeals, as counsel
on the part of the State, by the appointment of the Gover-
nor.

A bill entitled, an act to authorise the clerks of this State
to make certain entries and to do certain acts in the absence
the circuit judge.

A bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Mechanic's Insu-
rance Company of the city of Baltimore.

A bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Maryland Mutual
Insurance Company of Baltimore.

A bill entitled, an act to authorise the commissioner of the
land office to issue a patent to Robert May, of Baltimore
county, for certain land in said county.

A bill entitled, an act requiring John L. Stansbury, late
collector of the State taxes of 1848, for Baltimore county,
to make statements to the Comptroller of the amount of State
taxes due from him, and to pay the same into the Treasury
at such time and on such condition as are herein provided.

A bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money for
the payment of the claims of J. Wesley White, James H.
League, Richard Brashears and Thomas Mitchell.

Severally endorsed, ''passed by yeas and nays."
On motion of Mr. Belt;
The House adjourned sine die.
