The said bill was then sent to the Senate.
The bill entitled, an act supplementary to an act respecting
notaries public in this State, passed December session, 1801,
Being on its second reading,
Mr. Kennard proposed the following amendment as an ad-
ditional section:
"Section 2. And be it enacted, That the four notaries public
by this act created, together with those notaries public in
and for said city of Baltimore heretofore created by the act to
which this act is a supplement, be and they are hereby re-
quired under the penalty of a fine of fifty dollars, to be paid
to the public school fund of Baltimore city, to be recovered as
other fines and forfeitures are now recovered, and under the
further penalty of forfeiture of office, to form themselves into
an association, to be governed by such by-laws as they may
deem expedient, and to divide each week and share alike
to each member thereof the whole of the net weekly receipts
of the notaries aforesaid, which for that purpose shall be paid
in each week as a common fund to such officer of said associa-
tion as may be by them selected."
