He afterwards engaged in mercantile life, until about
twenty years since, when he returned to the place of his
birth; and from the time of his return held successively vari-
ous public offices, and also the post of Adjutant General at
the time of his death.
His worth and capacity are best certified by the length of
the time during which the State demanded his services.
By his death the community have lost a good citizen, the
public a faithful servant, and the State an efficient officer ;
Therefore,
Ordered, By the House of Delegates of Maryland, that in
token of their respect, this house will attend his funeral on
Sunday morning next, at ten o'clock at the House of Dele-
gates—and his Excellency the Governor and Secretary of
State, and other officers of the State government be invited
to attend.
Which was adopted.
Mr. Schnebly proposed the following
RESOLUTION:
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Adjutant General, be and he is hereby directed to furnish to
Captain Isaac Motter, of the "Washington Blues," sixty ri-
fles and accoutrements, out of the State's quota for 1858, upon
his giving the usual bond for their safe return when required
by the State.
