Mr. Grieves proposed the following amendment:

In section 13, line 3, after the words "said offence," insert
before any Justice of the Peace in any of the counties of the
State or the city of Baltimore.

Which was assented to.

Mr. Contee proposed the following amendment:

In section 13, line 3, after the word "year" strike out "by
the Sheriff of the respective counties," and insert "and if
within six months after the expiration of service he shall not
leave the State he shall be sold by the Sheriff to the highest
bidder as a slave for ten years;"

Which was assented to.

Mr. Grieves proposed the following amendment:

In section 13, line 11, after "society" add "except the sum
of twenty dollars to be paid to the informer, who is hereby
declared to be a competent witness,"

Mr. Neale proposed the following amendment:

In section 14, line 8, strike out imprison in the county jail
of free negro for the period of thirty days," and insert "shall
be sold for a period of five months,"

In section 14, line 3, after the word "owners," insert un-
less just and sufficient cause and reason for such absence can
be given and shown,"

Section 14, line 3, strike out "consent" and insert "writ-
ten order;"

Line 8, after word "of" insert "not less than ten nor more
than"
