FRIDAY, March 5th, 1858.
The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Graff.
Present at the call of the roll the following members:
Messrs. Berry, Speaker, Morgan, Wickes, Meginnis, Mac-
kubin, Kilbourn, Griffiss, Burgess, Walker, Allender, Smith,
of Baltimore county, Goldsborough, Waller, Moore, Sudler,
of Somerset, Tilghman, Dail, Richardson, Grieves, Kidd,
Belt, Wyville, Sudler, of Queen Anne's, Landing, Hearn,
Thomas, Harding, Bowlus, Root, Koons, Hobbs, Bacon,
Baker, Todd, McGonigal, Stirling, McPherson, Smith, of
Baltimore city, Kennard, Lynch, of Baltimore city, Har-
rington, Crowley, Forrest, Alexander, Rohrer, Gray,
Schnebly, Riddlemoser, Worthington, Thruston, Kilgour,
Barnard, McKinstry, Reindollar, Day and Dorsey.
The proceedings of yesterday were read.
Mr. Stirling presented a memorial from sundry citizens of
Baltimore, praying the passage of an act licensing real estate
brokers and property agents;
Which was ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Mackubin offered the following order:
Ordered, That the Governor be requested to have the Na-
tional Flag displayed at half-mast, as a testimony of respect
to the memory of the late Adjutant General, John Wilmot,
who departed this life on yesterday, 4th March, 1858, and
that the committee on Claims be directed to provide for the
payment of the funeral expenses of said deceased,
Which was adopted.
Mr. McPherson offered the following order:
Ordered, That the Governor of this State be requested to
cause such statistical facts, to be carefully gathered and kept,
by the proper officers, in the several counties of this State,
and in the city of Baltimore, during the period elapsing be-
tween the close of this, and the meeting of the next General
Assembly, as will best show the cost to the State, and her
actual expenses incurred by the evils and crimes arising from
the use or abuse of ardent spirits. Which information shall
be sent in to the Governor by the several county officers, and
those of the city of Baltimore, on the first Wednesday of Jan-
uary, 1860, and by him transmitted to the House of Dele-
gates, for their consideration and guidance, as soon as practi-
cable thereafter;
Which was adopted.
