754             JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [March 4,

Mr. Thomas presented a petition of thirty-three citizens of
Petersville District, Frederick county, respectfully praying the
passage of an act requiring all civil process sued out before
a Justice of the Peace to he made returnable to any Justice of
the Peace within the district where the defendant resides.

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.
Mr. Grieves offered the following order :

- Ordered, That the committee on Claims be and they are
hereby directed to pay to George W. Murdock, assistant page
and Charles A. Sullivan, assistant folder, the sum of two dol-
lar and fifty cents per day from the date of their appoint-
ment.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Dail from the committee on Claims, reported favorably
on the following bills:

A bill entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money for
the payment of the claims of J. Wesley White, James H.
League, Richard Brashears, Richard Thompson and Thomas
A. Mitchell.

A bill entitled, an act to refund to John H. Freeman and
William Lockerman certain moneys erroneously paid into
Treasury.

Which were severally read the first time; also

Reported unfavorably on the bill entitled, an act to allow
R. R. Borman and Richard Grason, extra compensation for ser-
vices rendered at the Circuit Court of Harford county.

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Harrington, from the committee on Corporations, re-
ported favorably on the Senate bill entitled an act to incor-
porate the stockholders of a female seminary in Chestertown;
also,         

Favorably on the bill entitled, an act to incorporate the
West India and South American Steamship Company of Bal-
timore,

Which was read the first time; also,

Favorably on a Senate bill entitled, an act to incorporate
and endow Cambridge Female Academy; also,

Favorably on a bill entitled, an act to incorporate the
Mechanics' Insurance Company of the city of Baltimore,

Which was read the first time.
