Mr. Alexander, from a select committee, reported favorably
on the bill entitled, an act to authorise the Mayor and City
Council of Baltimore to levy hereafter upon the assessable
property, real and personal and mixed, within the limits of
the city, of Baltimore, a police tax annually with full power
and authority by ordinance to collect the same.

Which was read the first time; also,

Mr. Lynch, of Baltimore county, from a select committee,
reported favorably on the bill entitled, an act to incorporate
the Windsor Run Turnpike Road Company ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Magruder, from a select committee, reported favorably
on the bill entitled, an act to authorise the county commis-
sioners of Calvert county, to appoint the sheriff of said county
as collector of State and county taxes ;

Which was read the first time; also

Favorably on the bill entitled, an act to authorise Elisha
Howes, of Calvert county, to dispose of certain negroes as
slaves for life ;

Which was read the first time.

The Speaker laid before the House the petition of sundry
citizens of Baltimore county, praying the prohibition of the
sale or gift of intoxicating liquors at the places of holding the
polls in Baltimore county ;

Which was referred to the Baltimore county delegation.

Also presented the petition of sundry citizens of Baltimore
county praying the change of location of the polls in the Thir-
teenth District of Baltimore county ;

Which was referred to the Baltimore county delegation.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following bills :

A bill entitled, an act to make valid a deed from George
Warner and wife, to Samuel Arthur ;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays."

A bill entitled, an act to punish certain trespasses ;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays;"

A bill entitled, an act to prohibit the taking of irresponsi-
ble and insufficient bail;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays;"

Which were severally read the first time, and referred to
the committee on the Judiciary ;
