The bill entitled, an act enlarging the powers of the vari-
ous courts in this State having equity jurisdiction in relation
to the enforcement of the vendor's lien on real estate;

Being upon its second reading,
Mr. Stonestreet proposed the following amendment:
Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall not be con-
strued as making parol contracts for the sale of land bonding
except where by law they now are, or as impairing in any
manner, the force and effect of the statute of frauds in this
State;

Which was assented to.

The bill, as amended, was then read the second time, and or-
dered to be engrossed for a third reading.

The bill entitled, an act to prevent free negroes or slaves
from having or using boats on the Potomac river,
Being upon its second reading;
Mr. Burgess proposed the following amendment:

Sec. 5, line 6, strike out "more," and insert "less," after
the word "not;"

Which was assented to.

Mr. Rogers proposed the following amendment:

In the 6th line of section 5, after the word "lashes," insert
"one-half of the penalty to paid to the informer;"

Which was not assented to.

The bill as amended was then read the second time, and or-
dered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Contee moved a suspension of the rules in order to en-
able the House to take up certain resolutions offered by him
on the 15th January, relative to public affairs in Kansas;
