Mr. Harrington presented a petition from sundry persons
for a repeal of the act on mortgage :

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Wickes presented a petition from William Tomlinson,
Joseph E. Weer, and thirty-two other citizens of the Second
Election District, of Kent county, to establish a new school
district in said election district of said county ;

Which was referred to the Kent county delegation.

Mr. McPherson presented a petition from twenty-seven citi-
zens of Baltimore city and county, asking for a law to prohibit
the sale of Intoxicating Liquors ;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Bacon presented a petition from A. W. Bateman and
one hundred and twenty-six others, citizens of Harford county,
praying that there may be no further legislation in respect to
wild fowl in the head waters of Chesapeake Bay;

Which was referred to the Harford and Cecil county dele-
gations.

Mr. Gray offered the following order:

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Mr. Sum-
mers is detained from his scat by sickness ;
Which was adopted.

On motion Mr. Kennard,

Leave was granted the Baltimore city delegation, to intro-
duce a bill entitled, an act to authorise the Mayor and City
Councils of Baltimore, to establish and enforce an inspection
and measurement of gas and gas metres in that city.
On motion of Mr. Riddlemoser,

Leave was granted the Washington and Frederick county
delegations to introduce a bill entitled, an act supplementary
to an act, passed January session, 1852, chapter 354, to en-
courage the destruction of Foxes in Frederick and Washing-
ton counties.

Mr. Ford, of Baltimore county, gave notice, that on Mon-
day next he would offer an order to rescind the forty-sixth
rule of the House.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,

Leave was granted to the Calvert county delegation, to in-
troduce a bill to authorise Elisha Howes of Calvert county, to
dispose of certain negroes as slaves for life.

On motion of Mr. Walker,
Leave was granted to introduce a bill to authorise the com-
