A bill entitled, an act to regulate the compensation of the
Judges of the Orphans' Court of Montgomery county;

A bill entitled, an act to establish a State Vaccine Agency
in the city of Baltimore, to provide for the appointment of an
agent, and to regulate his duties and compensation ;

Which were severally read the first time.

Mr. Dail, from a select committee, reported favorably on a
bill entitled, an act for the relief of Francis P. Phillips, of
Dorchester county ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Ford, of Baltimore county, from a select committee,
reported favorably on a bill entitled, an act to authorise the
Commissioners of Baltimore county to open streets or avenues
in that county;

Which was read the first time.

The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the day,

The House took up for consideration, the Senate bill en-
titled, an act for the establishment of a uniform system of
Common Schools in the State of Maryland;

Said bill being upon its second reading,

On motion of Mr. Magruder the rules were suspended, and
said bill reconsidered to its 6th section In order to allow him
to offer the following amendment.

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Add at the end of section 6,

"Provided, that in those counties where the trustees are
now chosen for the local supervision of public schools, the
said trustees may still be chosen in the manner now provided
by law, and the said trustees in connection with the school
commissioners shall in each school district have the same
powers and exercise the same duties which are now prescrib-
ed, anything in this act to the contrary notwithstanding.

Mr. Forrest called the previous question on the amend-
ment;
