and Elk Ridge Rail Road Company, under the provisions of the
act of December Session eighteen hundred and forty-one, passed
first March, eighteen hundred and forty-two, what amount of said
bonds have been redeemed and what amount of money, if any,
directed by said act to be applied to the payment of the interest
on said bonds remain unappropriated, also, the names of the par-
ties now holding said bonds.

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Harrington, asked the suspension of the rules to offer a
bill, entitled an act to present the introduction into the State
of fraudulent lottery tickets of other States or the United States.

The Speaker laid before the House, the report of the Visitors
of St. John's Literary Institute.

On motion of Mr. Magruder,

Leave was granted to the committee on Education, to intro-
duce a bill for the appointment of a superintendent of the Public
Schools of this State.

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city asked for the suspension of the
rules to present the memorial of 266 citizens of Baltimore city,
requesting the passage of a law restricting or prohibiting the sale
of intoxicating liquors;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

A message from the Senate was received and laid before the
House, containing a report of the Inspector of Tobacco Ware-
house No. 5;

Which was referred to the committee on Inspections.

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore county, offered the following order:

Ordered, That the Message of the Governor be referred to a
committee of five, for the purpose of distributing the various
matters therein contained, to the appropriate committees.

Mr. Sterling offered the following substitute :

All that portion of the Governor's Message which relates to
the Finances of the State be referred to the committee on Ways
and Means;

All that portion which relates to Internal Improvements of
the State, to the committee on Internal Improvements;

All that portion of the Message which refers to Education to
the committee on Education;

All that portion which refers to the Militia was referred to the
committee on the Militia;

That part which relates to Agriculture, to the committee on
Agriculture;
