The said bill was then sent to the Senate.

The title of the said bill was then so amended as to in-
clude Cecil, Carroll and Dorchester counties.

Mr. Sudler, of Somerset, offered the following order:

Ordered, That the leave that was granted the Som-
erset delegation, on page 496 of the journal, to introduce
a bill to authorise the Comptroller to settle with William F.
Jones, late collector of the direct tax of the said county, be
transferred to the committee on Ways and Means;

Which was adopted.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following bills :

An act amendatory of an act to establish and endow an
Agricultural College in Maryland, passed January session,
1856, chapter 97;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays;"

Which was read the first time, and referred to the com-
mittee on Agriculture;

A bill entitled, an act to re-enact a law passed at December
session, 1844, chapter 278, concerning the draining of swamps
and low grounds by the laying out and opening of public
roads and ditches in Worcester, Queen Anne's and Dorchester
counties;                         

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays ;"

Which was read the first time, and referred to the commit-
tee on Judiciary: also,

A bill entitled, an act to refund to Thomas Gorsuch,
of Baltimore county, a sum of money improperly paid by him
into the Treasury of the State;

Endorsed, "passed a yeas and nays;"

Which was read the first time, and referred to the commit-
tee on Claims; also,

A bill entitled, an act to amend an act entitled an act to
continue the corporate existence of the several banking insti-
