442             JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 19.

FRIDAY, February 19th, 1858.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by Rev. Mr.
Davenport.

Present at the call of the roll, the following members:

Messrs. Berry, Speaker, Morgan, Wickes, Meginnis,
Tongue, Mackubin, Kilbourn, Griffiss, Magruder, Burgess,
Allender, Ford, of Baltimore county, Lynch, of Baltimore
county, Goldsborough, Waller, Sudler, of Somerset, Tilgh-
man, Dail, Richardson, Grieves, Davis, Ford, of Cecil, Kidd,
Belt, Wyville, Larrimore, Landing, Spence, Hearn, Thomas,
Harding, Root, Koons, Hobbs, Hanway, Baker, McGonigal,
Rogers, McPherson, Smith, of Baltimore city, Kennard,
Lynch, of Baltimore city, Harrington, Crowley, Forrest,
Alexander, Rohrer, Gray, Schnebly, Worthington, Kilgour,
Barnard, McKinstry, Reindollar, Dorsey.

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Ford, of Cecil, presented a petition from James Car-
hart, Hugh Cameron, Isaac F. Vanarsdale, and twelve other
citizens of Cecil county, praying the passage of an act to es-
tablish a uniform system of Common Schools in said county ;

Which was referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. McPherson presented a petition from sixty-three ladies
and four gentlemen, praying for stringent legislation to pro-
tect them against the evils arising from intemperance;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. McPherson presented a petition from one hundred and
three voters, asking for stringent legislation against the evils
brought upon the community by the sale of ardent spirits ;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Koons presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Frederick county, praying the passage of a law regulating
fences in said county;

Which was referred to the Frederick county delegation.

Mr. Mackubin presented a petition from John S. Sellman
and thirty-eight other citizens of Anne Arundel county, pray-
ing a repeal of the law taxing Collateral Inheritances;

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Ford, of Baltimore county, presented a petition from
George Howard and twenty-two others, of Howard county,
for a bridge over Patapsco river, at Woodstock;

Which was referred to the Howard and Baltimore county
delegations.
