420              JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 18,

Leave was granted to the committee on Ways and Means,
to introduce a bill to regulate the granting of licenses to retail
intoxicating liquors in Kent county;

On motion of Mr. Waller,

Leave was granted to the Somerset county delegation, to
introduce a bill to authorize the comptroller to, settle with
William H. Jones, late collector of direct tax of Somerset
county, in the manner therein stated ;

Which was referred to Somerset county delegation.
On motion of Mr. Hobbs,

Leave was granted to the committee on Colored Popula-
tion, to introduce a bill for the admission of a free negress into
the State ;

On motion of Mr. Barnard,

Leave was granted to the committee on Judiciary, to bring
in a bill for the relief of William Price and others, trustees of
the Maryland Mining Company ;

On motion of Mr. Riddlemoser,

Leave was granted the Washington county delegation, to
introduce a bill to exempt from execution a certain amount of
property of a debtor ;

Mr. Alexander, chairman of the committee on Judiciary,
reported favorably on a bill entitled, an act more effectually
to prevent gambling ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Crowley, from the committee on Roads and Highways,
reported unfavorably on a bill entitled, an act to prohibit the
President, Managers and Company of the Baltimore and Fre-
dericktown Turnpike Road, from collecting tolls on said road,
within one mile of the corporate limits of Baltimore city ;

Which was read the first time, also,

Reported favorably on a bill entitled, a supplement to an
act entitled, an act to incorporate a company to build a turn-
pike road from Woodsborough to Monocacy bridge, on the
road leading to Frederick city ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Alexander, from the committee on Judiciary, reported
favorably on a bill entitled, an act to perpetuate the evidence
of the organization of the Bloomingdale Turnpike Road Com-
pany ;

Which was read the first time; also,

Favorably on a bill entitled, an act relating to the institu-
tion of suits either where defendants resides or has a place of
business; also,
