Further proceedings under the call, were dispensed with,
and the House resumed the consideration of the bill.

Mr. Belt moved to strike out the enacting clause of said
bill;

Pending the consideration of the motion.

The House adjourned.

THURSDAY, February 18th, 1858.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Graff.

Present at the call of the roll, the following members:
Messrs. Berry, Speaker, Morgan, Neale, Wickes, Meginnis,
Tongue, Mackubin, Kilbourn, Griffiss, Magruder, Burgess,
Stonestreet, Walker, Allender, Ford, of Baltimore county,
Goldsborough, Waller, Moore, Sudler, of Somerset, Tilgh-
man, Dail, Richardson, Grieves, Davis, Ford of Cecil, Kidd,
Belt, Wyville, Larrimore, Landing, Spence, Hearn, Thomas,
Harding, Bowlus, Root, Koons, Hobbs, Hanway, Bacon,
Baker, McGonigal, Stirling, Rogers, McPherson, Smith, of
Baltimore city, Kennard, Lynch, of Baltimore city, Harring-
ton, Crowley, Forrest, Alexander, Rohrer, Summers, Gray,
Schnebly, Riddlemoser, Duvall, Worthington, Kilgour, Bar-
nard, Reindollar, Day, Welling and Dorsey,

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

On motion it was ordered to be entered on the Journal that
Mr. Thruston is detained from his seat by indisposition.

Mr. Ford, of Cecil, presented a petition from J. McMullin,
George P. Taylor, William J. Donahoe and forty-three other
citizens of Cecil county, praying the passage of an act to es-
tablish a uniform system of common schools in said county;

Which was referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. Spence presented a petition from sundry citizens of the
Second Election District of Worcester county, in this State,
praying the rejection of any bill providing for the appoint-
ment of an additional constable in said district;
