So the House refused to postpone the resolutions indefi-
nitely.

Mr. Crowley moved that said resolutions be now taken up;

Determined in the negative.

Pending the consideration of the original proposition,

The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the
day.

The House took up for consideration the bill entitled, an
act to authorise the Governor to appoint four inspectors and
measurers for the city of Baltimore, of all manures heretofore
sold by the cart load; provide for their compensation, and
determine what quantity shall constitute a load.

Mr. Alexander proposed the following amendment: insert
in the seventh line, section 7th, after the word "informer,"
the words "who is hereby made a competent witness;"

Which was assented to.

Mr. Mackubin offered the following amendment: add at
the end of section 7, "provided that nothing herein contained
shall be construed to apply to the carts of farmers and garden-
ers who bring vegetables, fruit or other produce to market;"

Which was assented to.

Mr. Rogers proposed the following amendment: strike out
all after the word "measured," in the 3d section;

Which was not assented to.

Mr. Stirling proposed the following amendment:

"Provided, That this act shall not be construed to prevent
the sale and purchase of manure in any other mode that may
be agreed upon by the vender and purchaser, without having
the same inspected;"

Which was not assented to.

Mr. Mackubin moved to strike out the word "March," in
the 8th section, and insert "May ;"
