40               JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS.           [Jan. 12,

The hour of one o'clock having arrived, Messrs. Harrington
and Thruston, were appointed a committee to wait upon the
Senate, and inform them that the House of Delegates was pre-
pared to receive them, in order to proceed to open the returns of
the vole for Governor, as required by Section 3rd, Article 2nd of
the Constitution

The Honorable, the Senate having appeared in the Hall of the
House of Delegates, the returns from the several counties and
the city of Baltimore, were opened and counted, when it appear-
ed that the Hon. Thomas Holliday Hicks had received
votes for Governor, and that the Hon. John C. Groome, had re-
ceived               votes as follows:

Whereupon the the Honorable, the Speaker, declared the Hon.
Thomas H. Hicks, duly elected Governor of Maryland.

Hon. Thomas Holliday Hicks, having received a majority of
the votes cast, was therefore declared duly elected Governor of
Maryland.
