died by the people of Kansas in their sovereign State capaci-
ty, at any time, by a State Convention, it would therefore be
not only irregular and illegal,' but unwise and prejudicial to
the best interests of the whole country, for Congress to reject
the Lecompton Constitution on account of any such supposed
defects and errors.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be transmitted
by the Governor to our several Representatives in both branch-
es of Congress.

Which were read.

Mr. Alexander offered the following order :

Ordered, That the number of the joint special committee,
heretofore appointed on the part of this House, to whom was
referred the report of Messrs. Scott and McCullough, codifi-
ers, be increased to five;

Which was adopted, and the Speaker added Messrs. Belt
and Magruder to said committee.                               

Mr. Hobbs offered the following order :

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that the ab-
sence of Messrs. Grieves and Dail, during several days of
the present session, has been occasioned by their duties on
committees under order of this House;

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Burgess,

Leave was granted the Charles county delegation, to bring
in a bill to define and fix the fees and compensation of the
Surveyor of said county.

On motion of Mr. Goldsborough,

Leave was granted to the committee on Judiciary, to intro-
duce a bill authorising the Circuit Court for the Eighth Ju-
dicial District, upon certain conditions to sell and distribute
the proceeds of the real estate of Stephen Pearce, deceased.

On motion of Mr. Alexander,

Leave was granted to the committee on Corporations, to
bring in a bill to incorporate the Hampton Association of
Baltimore.

On motion of Mr. Harrington,

Leave was granted to the committee on Corporations, to
introduce a bill to incorporate the American Improvement
Company.

On motion of Mr. Harrington,

Leave was granted to the committee on Corporations, to
introduce a bill to incorporate the Monumental Steam Tow-
ing Company.
