When on motion of Mr. Harrington,

Said bill was made the special order of the day for Thursday
next.

Mr. Kilgour moved that the House do now adjourn;

Which was determined in the negative.

The House took up for consideration the bill entitled, an
act to simplify and amend the law of ejectment.

Mr. Lynch, of Baltimore county, moved to recommit the
bill to the special committee;

Which was determined in the negative.
Pending the second reading of said bill;

On motion of Mr. Kilgour,

A call of the House was ordered, and it appeared that forty
members were present.

On motion of Mr. Lynch, of Baltimore city,
Further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.
Pending the second reading of said bill,

On motion of Mr. Stirling,

The House took up for consideration the bill entitled, an
act to authorise the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore
city, to levy hereafter upon the assessable property within
said city, a direct tax, not to exceed the sum of eight hundred
thousand dollars annually, with full power, by ordinance, to
provide for the collection of the same;

Which was read the second time and ordered to be en-
grossed for a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Stirling,
The rules were suspended, and

Said bill was read the third time, three-fourths of the mem-
bers concurring, and passed by yeas and nays, as follow:
