Referred to the committee on Judiciary, hereafter to be ap-
pointed.

Leave was granted to Mr. Ford, of Cecil county, to bring in
a bill to protect the Fishermen on the head waters of the Chesa-
peake Bay;

Referred to the committee on Judiciary, hereafter to be ap-
pointed.

Leave was granted to Mr. Alexander to bring in a bill to ap-
point commissioners to organize the American bank, chartered at
January session, 1856;

Referred to the committee on Corporations, hereafter to be ap-
pointed.

Leave was granted Mr. Kilgour to bring in a bill, entitled "An
act to increase the pay of the judges in the several election dis-
tricts of Allegany county ;

Referred to the Allegany delegation.

The following message was sent to the Senate :

By the House of Delegates,

January 12, 1858.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We respectfully propose, with the concurrence of your honor-
able body, to open the returns of the election for Governor of
Maryland this day, at one o'clock, in the hall of the House of
Delegates, in the, presence of both Houses, agreeably to the re-
quirements of the Constitution of the State.

The following message was received from the Senate :

By the Senate,
January 12, 1858.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We propose, with the concurrence of your honorable body,
the appointment of a joint committee, to examine the vouchers
which the Governor may submit for the expenditure of the con-
tingent fund placed by law at his disposal, as well as the expendi-
ture of the sum of four thousand dollars, appropriated by the
act of 1854 to repair and furnish the Government House.

We have appointed Messrs. Franklin and McMasters to join the
gentlemen named by your honorable body.
