duty clearly devolved upon them by the charter of the Hos-
pital.

The present Board of the Hospital consist of the following
persons:

Dr. Richard S. Stewart, President, elected by the Board on
its organization in 1828, and re-elected annually ever since.

Charles Howard, of Baltimore, Vice President, appointed
visitor by the charter.

John J. Donaldson of Baltimore, appointed visitor by the
charter.

Dr. David Keener, of Baltimore, appointed visitor by the
charter.

Evan T. Ellicott, of Baltimore, appointed visitor by the
charter.

Those Gentlemen were elected to fill vacancies as they occured.
George Wm, Brown, of Baltimore, elected in 1845.
Dr. S. Collins, of Baltimore, elected in 1845.
Thos. Wilson, of Baltimore, elected in 1846.
Johns Hopkins, of Baltimore, elected in 1852.
Win. G. Harrison, of Baltimore, elected in 1857.
Enoch Pratt, of Baltimore, elected in 1857.

And of the following members from the counties appointed
by the charter, Wm. Fell Johnson, of Baltimore county.

Dr. Wm. Tyler, of Frederick county.

George W. Dobbin, of Howard county, appointed by act of
1852, chapter 364.

John K. Longwell, of Carroll county, appointed by same
act.

No Visitor, from any of the counties has ever attended a
meeting of the Board, since the year 1835, except Geo. W.
Dobbin, Esq., who since his appointment, in 1852, has been
a regular and constant attendant. Partly, in consequence of
the long continued failure of the county members to attend
the meetings; partly, in consequence of the difficulty of as-
certaining when a vacancy in their number had occurred, and
partly in consequence of the want of information on the part
of city members, of persons in the different counties from
whom a proper selection of visitors might be made, the vacan-
cies which have occurred among the Visitors from the counties,
have not been filled. But the attention of the Board having
been called, by the application of your Excellency, to the exist-
ence of vacancies in the various counties, they propose to till
them so soon as it can be done with a due regard to the interests
of the institution, which the Board think will be promoted by
