more and patrons of the institution known as Newton Uni-
versity, praying a repeal of the act passed December session,
1844, chapter 272, incorporating said University;

Which was referred to the committee on Corporations.

Mr. Larrimore presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Centreville, in Queen Anne's county to authorise the Com-
missioners of said town to pave the streets thereof;

Which was referred to the Queen Anne's county delega-
tion.

Mr. Burgess presented a petition from Edward Miles and
others, citizens of Charles county in reference to the prevent-
ing free negroes and slaves from having and using boats on
the Potomac river;

Which was referred to the Prince George's and Charles
county delegations.

Mr. Rohrer presented a petition from H. S. Crider and
forty-two others, citizens of Washington county, praying the
repeal of a clause in the exemption law, passed at January
session of the General Assembly of Maryland, in the year
1852;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Rogers presented a petition from S. Morris Cochran
and of twenty-one others, citizens of Maryland, and patrons
of Newton University, for the passage of an act to incorpor-
ate an institution to be called Newton College;

Which was referred to the committee on Corporations.

Mr. Rogers presented a petition from C. Ballard and fifty-
five others, merchants and citizens of Baltimore city, against
any charge in the law creating inspectors:

Which was referred to the committee on Inspections.

Mr. Kilgour offered the following order :

Ordered, That five thousand copies of the Governor's Mes-
sage be printed for the use of the members of this House;

Mr. Magruder moved to lay said order on the table.
