Mr. Kennard presented a petition from sundry citizens of
Baltimore city, praying for exemption from taxation on a
edifice built for charitable purpose and known as Red Men's
Hall;

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Hanway presented a petition from J. P. McCombs,
and others, praying that so much of the act passed at January
session 1856, section 3rd, as refers to persons applying in per-
son at the clerk's office, to take out license, be repealed :

Which was laid on the table.

Mr. Thruston presented a petition from Coal Companies and
Proprietors of Coal Lands in Allegany county, against any
change in the law regulating Pilotage ;

Which was laid on the table.

Mr. Todd presented a petition from Wm. McMann and
eleven other citizens of Caroline county, to allow Wm. Stafford,
to bring a slave woman for a term of years into said county ;

Which was referred to committee on Colored Population.

Mr. Hanway presented a petition from Thomas Alderson
and others, for an act to build a bridge over Winter's Run on
the road leading from Jarrettsville to the Upper X Roads
in Harford county;

Which was referred to the Harford county delegation.

Mr. Alexander presented the memorial of Andrew B. Cross,
for the suppression of abuses and protection of persons confined
in prisons, convents and mad houses, in this {State ;

Which was being read; when,

Mr. Mackubin moved that so much be considered a reading
of said memorial;

Which was determined in the affirmative by yeas and nays,
as follow :
