Mr. Stirling, from the committee on Ways and Means, re-
ported favorably on a bill entitled, an act for the relief of the
trustees of John Thawley, former collector of State tax in Caro-
line county,

Which was read the first time.
On motion of Mr. Stirling,

The rules were suspended and he offered the following
order:

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal, that the absence
of Mr. Kennard is caused by attendance to his duties on the
joint committee to visit the Penitentiary.

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Stirling,

The rules were suspended, and he offered the following
order:

Ordered, That the petition of sundry Tobacco Merchants of
Baltimore, in regard to the wages of laborers in the Tobacco
Warehouses, heretofore referred to the committee on Ways
and Means, be referred to the committee on Inspections;

Which was adopted.

The General Assembly of Maryland:

The joint committee of the two Houses, heretofore appoint-
ed to examine and report upon the condition of the Govern-
ment House, furniture, appointments, grounds and out-build-
ings of the same, most respectfully beg leave to report that
