7th.—Who have been the principals, clergymen and lay-
men, and to what denomination of Christians have they be-
longed ?

Which was adopted.

The bill entitled an act by which the names of individuals
may be changed without the action of the Legislature,

Being upon its second reading,

Mr. Stirling proposed the following amendment:

" Strike out the third section ;"

Which was assented to.

Mr. Mackubin moved to make said bill the order of the day
for the 11th day of February;

Determined in the negative.

The said bill, as amended, was then read the second time,
and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

The bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Maryland Mu-
tual Life and Fire Insurance Company,

Being upon its second reading,
On motion of Mr. Grieves,

A call of the House was ordered, and it appeared that forty-
four members were present;

The Doorkeeper was sent after the absent members.

On motion of Mr. Kennard.
Further proceedings, under the call were dispensed with,

And the House resumed the consideration of the bill enti-
tled, an act to incorporate the Maryland Mutual Life and Fire
Insurance Company;

On motion of Mr. Goldsborough,

Said bill was re-committed to the committee on corporations.

The Senate bill entitled, an act to authorise the Preston
Coal and Iron Company, of the State of Virginia, to purchase
and hold lands and other property in the State of Maryland,
and to exercise the powers and privileges of a corporation
within the State of Maryland, for Mining and Manufacturing
purposes;

Being upon its second reading,

Mr. McPherson proposed the following amendment:

"Insert the word second," in the line of section 3, before
the word "sections;"

Which was assented to.

The said bill as amended was then read the second time
and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.
