TUESDAY, February 2, 1858.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by Rev. Mr.
Graff.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Berry, Speaker, Morgan, Neale, Wickes, Meginnis,
Tongue, Mackubin, Kilbourn, Griffiss, Magruder, Stonestreet,
Allender, Ford, of Baltimore co., Lynch, of Baltimore co.,
Smith, of Baltimore county, Goldsborough, Waller, Moore,
Richardson, Davis, Ford, of Cecil, Belt, Wyville, Contee,
Larrimore, Sudler, of Queen Anne's, Landing, Spence, Hearn,
Thomas, Harding, Bowlus, Hobbs, Hanway, Bacon, Baker,
McGonigal, Stirling, Rogers, McPherson, Smith of Baltimore
city, Kennard, Lynch, of Baltimore city, Harrington, Crowley,
Alexander, Rohrer, Summers, Gray, Schnebly, Duvall, Thrus-
ton, Barnard, Reindollar, Day, Welling and Dorsey.

The proceedings of yesterday, were read.

The Speaker laid before the House the petition of the Pilots;

Which was referred to the committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Alexander presented a petition from Rosa Cummings,
widow of Alexander Cummings, praying to be refunded cer-
tain money, paid on a license issued to said deceased as gauger
and inspector of liquors, just previous to his death ;

Which was referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Bacon presented a petition from Charles B. Hitchcock,
John A. Hopper, and others, citizens of Harford county, ask-
ing the passage of an act to incorporate Havre de Grace Acade-
my in said county, and also an annual donation from the State
of Maryland of $250 per annum, as a partial endowment of
the said Academy ;

Which was referred to the committee on Education;

Mr. Duvall presented a petition from 18 persons of Mont-
gomery county, asking the opening of a public road through
a portion of Montgomery and Howard counties ;

Which was referred to the Montgomery and Howard county
delegations.

Mr. Wickes presented a petition from 87 citizens of Kent
and Queen Anne's counties, to widen the draw of Chester
Bridge at Chestertown;

Which was referred to the chairman of the committee on
Roads and Highways, and the Kent and Queen Anne's coun-
ty delegations.
