Leah Gale, late of Cecil county, deceased, for the support of
a minister of the Protestant Episcopal Church, at St. Mark's
Chapel, in said county.

Mr. Wickes, from a select committee, reported favorably on
a bill entitled, an act to authorise the agents or officers of cor-
porations to make affidavit to the consideration of mortgages
and bills of sale ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Rohrer, from a select committee, reported favorably on
a bill entitled, an act to legalize the election and acts
of the present Burgess, assistant Burgess, and commis-
sioners of the town of Boonsboro', in Washington county ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Allender, from a select committee, reported a bill
entitled, an act to establish a uniform system of Public Edu-
cation in the State of Maryland ;

Which was read the first time, and

Mr. Allender moved that said bill be referred to the com-
mittee on Education, and that 500 extra copies be printed ;

Determined in the negative.

Mr. Alexander moved that 200 copies be printed,

Determined in the negative.

Mr. Stirling moved that 100 copies be printed,

Determined in the negative.

Mr. Stirling moved that said bill be referred to the commit-
tee on Education ;

Determined in the affirmative.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following messages:

By the Senate,

January 29th, 1858.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We have received your message proposing the appointment
of a joint committee to examine certain unrecorded plats and
certificates of survey in the Land Office of Maryland, with the
view of having them recorded if necessary, and to report by
bill or otherwise, and concur therein. The chair has appoin-
ted Messrs. Graham, Franklin and Smith, on the part of the
Senate.
