The said bill was then sent to the Ren ate.

On motion of Mr. Kennard,
The rules were suspended, and

Leave was granted to the committee on Corporations, to
introduce a bill to amend the charter of the Howard Fire In-
surance Company, of Baltimore city; Also,

On motion of Mr. Kennard,

Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation, to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an act to enable the Fire Inspector of
Baltimore city, to take testimony in certain cases.

On motion of Mr. Stirling,

The rules were suspended, and he presented a memorial of
Wm. C. Cunningham, James L. Dorsey and others, agents
for collecting State taxes in arrears, in Baltimore city, asking
for compensation for services.

On motion of Mr. Kilbourn,

The rules were suspended, and he reported favorably on a
bill entitled, an act to authorise the Commissioners of Anne
Arundel county to levy a sum of money therein mentioned,
for the support of the primary schools of said county.

The said bill was then read the first time.
On motion of Mr. Dail,

The rules were suspended, and he reported favorably from
the committee on Claims, a bill entitled, an act appropriating
a sum of money for the payment of the claims of Collins,
Heats and Hutchinson, Scott and Wilson, John H. Slemaker,
Lewis Gootee, J. S. Merrikin, James Branzell, William Free-
man, H. G. Letourneau, Wm. J. Jewell, George W. Becken-
baugh, John W. White and James Murray.

The said bill was then read the first time.

Unfinished business being in order, the House took up
for consideration the resolutions offered by Mr. Alexander, on
the 15th instant, in reference to a uniform system of weights
and measures throughout the United States.

The said resolutions were then read the second time, as-
sented to, and sent to the Senate.

On motion of Mr. Kilbourn,
The rules were suspended, and
