So the amendment was adopted.

The question then recurring on the order as amended;

It was adopted.

The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the day;

The House took up for consideration the preamble and res-
olutions submitted by Mr. Grieves, of Dorchester, on Tues-
day, the 12th day of January;

Which were read the second time.

Mr. Mackubin, offered the following order, as a substitute
for said preamble and resolutions;

Ordered, That so much of the Governor's Message as refers
to the "lawlessness in Baltimore," be referred to a committee
to be composed of one delegate from each county and the city
of Baltimore, and that the Chairman of said committee shall,
on the application of any three members, summon such wit-
nesses and send for such papers as they may deem necessary,
to a full and fair investigation of the subject.

On motion of Mr. Kilgour,

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole;
Mr. Summers, of Washington county, in the chair.

After some time spent in committee of the whole, the
Speaker resumed the chair, when

Mr. Summers, Chairman of the committee of the whole,
reported progress, and asked leave to sit again;

Which was granted.

On motion of Mr. Alexander,
The House adjourned until to morrow-morning at 11 o'clock.
