tion;

Which was referred to the committee on Pensions.

Mr. Harrington, presented a memorial of the dealers and
traders in leather, morocco and findings, in the city of Balti-
more, for increase of license;

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.
On motion of Mr. Welling,

The rules were suspended, and he reported from the com-
mittee on Currency, the bill entitled, an act to prevent the
circulation of notes or hills of a denomination less than ten
dollars, from and after the first day of July, 1858, and of less
than twenty dollars, from and after the first day of January,
eighteen hundred and fifty-nine ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Goldsborough, offered the following order:

Ordered, That the committee on Judiciary be instructed to
inquire, whether any recognizance was ever taken in the case
of the State of Maryland against Joseph Letson, charged with
an assault with intent to murder Marcus Guinsberg, which
said case was removed by habeas corpus from Anne Arundel
county, to the Superior Court of Baltimore, and if taken, why
the same has not been returned to the Circuit Court for Anne
Arundel county, and if not, the reasons why the same was not
taken, and to report the facts connected therewith, to this
House at as early a day as practicable;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Dail, offered the following order;

Ordered, That leave be granted to withdraw from the files
of the House, the memorial of Grace Bewley, widow of George
Bewley, a revolutionary soldier, for relief therein mentioned;

Which as adopted.

Mr. Belt, offered the following order:

Ordered, That the committee of Elections have power to
send for persons and papers, at the suggestion of any member
thereof, in the matter of the memorial of Jervis Spencer, and
others, contesting the seats of the sitting members from the
city of Baltimore;

Mr. Smith, of Baltimore city, moved to lay said order on the
table;
