The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Messrs. Elias Ware, Jr., and J. D. Mountz, Esquires, ap-
peared and were qualified committee clerks to the House.

The Speaker laid before the House the memorial of Charles
Howard, contesting the election of the Judges of the Orphans'
Court of Baltimore city ;

Referred to the committee on Elections.

Mr. Lone presented the petition of Levin Ross and other
citizens of Somerset county, praying that licenses may be
withheld from hawkers and pedlars in Somerset county ;

Referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Landing presented the petition of Mary Hohne, widow
of Christopher Hohne, a private in the American Revolution,
asking a pension ;                                                               

Referred to the committee on Pensions.

. Mr. Parran presented the petition of sundry citizens, for
the better regulation and management of the Tobacco In-
spection Warehouses in the city of Baltimore ;

Referred to the committee on Inspections.

Mr. Welch presented a petition from citizens in Anne
Arundel county, in relation to free negroes ;

Referred to the committee on Colored Population.

Mr. Harding presented the petition of James G. Henning,
Clerk of Montgomery county, to have certain land records
re-bound;

Referred to the Montgomery county delegation.

Mr. Turner presented the petition of William Paterson,
for relief;

Referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Bayless presented a petition from W. H. Dallam, and
others, praying that the Harford riflemen may be furnished
with arms, &c;                                                                 

Referred to the committee on the Militia.

Mr. Turner presented a memorial of the Maryland Insti-
tute, for the promotion of the mechanics' arts ;

Referred to the committee on Education.
